Rebels in Daraa Al-Balad ready to hand over weapons to Syrian army

Rebels in Daraa al-Balad on Wednesday agreed to hand over their weapons to the Syrian army, Xinhua news agency reported, citing state news agency SANA.

With the surrender of medium and heavy weapons to the Syrian army, the rebels will either embark on a reconciliation process to remain in Daraa or evacuate to rebel held areas in northern Syria.

Daraa al-Balad is located in the southern province of Daraa, where the Syrian war began.

The deal in Daraa al-Balad is the latest in a string of deals struck between Russia, which is representing the Syrian government, and various rebel groups in Daraa.

The Syrian military campaign in Daraa has been ongoing since June 19.
