Tabnak – Hours after the United States, together with the UK and France launched a strike against the Syrian government’s positions, Iranian high-ranking officials condemned the move, underlining that it won’t change the equations on the ground.

In this vein, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei deplored overnight missile attacks on Syria by Washington and its allies as “a crime”, calling the presidents of the US and France as well as the British prime minister “criminals”.

“I clearly declare that the US president, the French president and the UK prime minister are criminals and have committed a crime,” the Leader said on Saturday.

The three countries, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "will achieve nothing and make no benefit, as they have been in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan in the past few years, and committed such crimes but have not profited from them."

“Those, who were overtly and covertly supporting Daesh, now claim that they have confronted and defeated them (the terrorists),” Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding, “That is a lie; that is not the case; they had no role” in efforts to defeat the terrorist group.

The Leader added that the US created the “evil creatures” called Daesh, using the money provided by the Al Saud regime and the likes. However, Ayatollah Khamenei added, the resistance against the US and its agents saved the Iraqi and Syrian nations.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani decried the missile attacks on Syria by the US and its allies and said they are trying to justify their military presence in the Middle East by such acts of aggression.

At a time when a United Nations mission is tasked with examining the issue of chemical weapons use in Syria, some (countries) attack the independent country under false pretexts and without a UN resolution, Rouhani said.

“Have not the US, the Zionist regime (of Israel) and their supporters, especially Britain and France, learnt a lesson from the events of the past 17 years in the region?” he said.

“US aggressions in the region will yield no result but destruction and demolition,” the president said, adding, “They want to justify their presence in the region with these aggressions.” He further pledged Tehran’s continued support for Damascus and said Iran has always supported oppressed nations in the region and the world.

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister strongly condemned the strikes as a violation of international law, warning against the repercussions of such an act of aggression against an independent country.

“The aggression is a flagrant violation of international law and a disregard of Syria’s right to national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Saturday.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also said that the tripartite attack on Syria will fail to weaken the resistance front, but rather reinforce it in the face of interventionist measures.

“The Americans should wait for the consequences of their moves,” IRGC’s Deputy Commander for Political Affairs Brigadier General Yadollah Javani told Fars news agency.

Such attacks are to the detriment of the US and will only complicate the situation, Javani said, noting that Washington is “responsible for the future consequences of the regional developments that will follow.”
