Iran Reiterates Support to Afghan-Led Peace Talks

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received Iranian special envoy for Afghanistan, Ebrahim Taherian, here in his office yesterday, a presidential statement said.

Both sides discussed bilateral relations and the peace process, according to the statement.

Welcoming the Iranian envoy, President Ghani said peace and stability in Afghanistan was indeed peace and stability in the region, adding Afghan government was trying to establish durable peace in the country.

Iranian envoy briefed the president on Taliban’s trip to Tehran, adding Islamic Republic of Iran was committed to the principle of respecting and honoring the Afghan constitution. He said his country was support Afghan-led and owned peace talks, the statement added.
