The national and Islamic forces in Ramallah are calling for a general strike this coming Monday in support of Israeli Arabs and at the request of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, which is protesting the Nationality Law.

In a statement, the group stressed that the general strike would include schools, universities and workplaces. In addition, the Palestinian Arab public is being called to gather in Khan al-Ahmar, the illegal Bedouin outpost near Jerusalem which is slated for demolition.

"We appeal to our people (the Palestinians) regarding the need to continue to escalate the popular struggle against all lands threatened with expropriation and demolition, and to strengthen the expressions of solidarity and support for our people in the village of Khan al-Ahmar," the statement said.

A general strike in Judea and Samaria is usually accompanied by confrontations and disturbances between Palestinian Arabs and Israeli security forces in areas of friction and by attempts to harm Jews living in these areas.

The Nationality Law, which was approved by the Knesset several months ago, states that Israel is the Jewish people's nation state and establishes as law Israel's flag, symbols, the Hebrew language, and various other data-x-items mentioned in the Declaration of Independence.

The law does not affect the rights of minority citizens in Israel, but has been criticized by Arab countries which claimed that it is discriminatory.

Palestinian Authority (PA) chief negotiator Saeb Erekat claimed the law “aims at destroying the two-state solution and replacing it with an apartheid regime.”

PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly condemned the law as “racist”, including in his speech at the UN General Assembly last week.
