US secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Wednesday shared his views on India buying missile defence system from Russia and Iranian oil export.

Ahead of his short visit to Pakistan and the much awaited maiden 2+2 dialogue with India scheduled for Thursday, Pompeo stated that, although those are crucial issues for US-India ties, the same might not be discussed during the dialogue.

"Don’t see us resolving those or have an intention to resolve those during this set of meetings of the strategic dialogue," Pompeo told media en route to Ireland

"They'll certainly come up, but I don’t think they’ll be the primary focus of what it is we’re trying to accomplish here," he added.

Ahead of the strategic dialogue with India, that will commence in New Delhi on September 6, Pompeo is expected to press Pakistan to target all terror groups on its soil and play a positive role in war-torn Afghanistan.

He is set to meet Pakistan's new leadership headed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan in Islamabad today in a bid to reset the strained bilateral ties, news agency PTI reported.

Pompeo's visit will mark the first-ever high-level dialogue between the Trump administration and Khan-led Pakistan's regime.

The US delegation will "make very clear what we have to do, all of our nations, in meeting our common foe, the terrorists," Defence Secretary James Mattis said last week in Washington.
