Sudan’s Swar al-Dahab says siege imposed on Qatar hurt Arab national security

The former president of Sudan, Swar Al-Dahab has called on Saudi Arabia to end the Gulf crisis and invite Qatar to participate in the upcoming Arab summit in Riyadh.

Speaking to Quds Press, al- Dahab said “the siege policy adopted by the three Gulf countries with Qatar has harmed all the Gulf states as well as Gulf and Arab national security”.

“Qatar is an active member of the Arab League and its presence in the Arab world is very important, and Saudi Arabia has a prestigious position in the Arab world and we are waiting for it to resolve the problems that penetrate the Gulf and Arab body” he said, adding that Saudi Arabia should work to overcome the differences, and end the blockade imposed on Qatar, which has no justification”.

Al-Dahab regretted that the Gulf crisis has intensified, while Arab and Islamic efforts did not succeed to resolve it” noting that “the US envoy’s tour to resolve the Gulf crisis would not have been necessary if the dialogue was contained within Gulf, Arab and Islamic actors”.

Earlier this week, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, renewed his effort to end the siege through letters sent to leaders of the Gulf States.

The US Secretary of State General Anthony Zinni and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Arabian Gulf Affairs, Tim Lenderking, and the accompanying delegation began a tour in the region to discuss ways to resolve the crisis.

On June, 5 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar and closed their air and sea ports with it for allegedly supporting terrorism, which Doha denies.
