President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will discuss the issues of Afghanistan, Syria and Russia within the frameworks of his visit to Washington, reports Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper.
"We aspire to bring our cooperation with the US to the level of extended strategic partnership. The United States is our old strategic partner since our country got the independence. (...) The US is a big trade-economic, investment partner of Kazakhstan. From political viewpoint we cooperate in resolution and promotion of issues of regional and global security. The issue of Afghanistan will be in focus of negotiations, there is also Syrian issue. The relations with Russia will be discussed in terms of Eurasian strategy of the US,” said Sanat Kushkumbayev, deputy director of Kazakhstani institute of strategic research under the President of Kazakhstan.
At the negotiations the parties will cover Kazakhstani agenda in respect of US including in the trade-economic field and security.
Anti-nuclear aspect will be in focus, as traditionally the American administration renders big significance to the leadership of Kazakhstan in the field of non-nuclear proliferation. The events on the Korean peninsula will also be in focus," he added.
N. Nazarbayev will pay a working visit to the US on January 16-18.
