Russia, United Arab Emirates discuss Qatar crisis

The boycott of Qatar by its Arab neighbors was discussed in a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the United Arab Emirates’ State Minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber on Friday.

"In the context of the sharp aggravation of relations between Qatar and a number of other states in the region, Lavrov stressed that Russia consistently stands for overcoming existing differences through dialogue,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Jaber arrived in Moscow on Friday for a brief visit and also met Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

A diplomatic and economic blockade by Arab states including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain and Yemen was launched on June 5. Qatar has denied the claim that it supports terrorism, which was made to explain the decision to isolate it.
