Politico - White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway on Monday morning
previewed President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban, saying the new
executive order will have an effective date of March 16 and will exclude
Iraq and current visa holders.
Conway also said the new order would be released later on Monday and
that it would treat Syrian refugees no different than other refugees.
"I think people will see six or seven major points about this
executive order that do clarify who is covered,” Conway said on "Fox and
Friends.” "If you have travel docs, if you actually have a visa, if you
are a legal permanent resident, you are not covered under this
particular executive action. Also, Iraq is no longer on the list based
on their enhanced screening and reporting measures.”
Trump’s original executive order, which cracked down on travel and
immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries and temporarily banned
Syrian refugees, touched off a furor not just in the United States but
also abroad.
The courts quickly froze the order and the Trump White House decided
to craft a modified version rather than take its legal battle all the
way to the Supreme Court.
It’s not clear if the changes laid out by Conway will be enough to
mollify Trump’s critics and the courts, but they would mark a
significant rollback from the original, aggressive travel ban.
