The Iraqi President met with Ayatollah Khamenei

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received President Barham Salih, on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at his office in Tehran, as part of Iraqi Presedent official visit to Iran.

At the onset of the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his congratulations to Dr. Barham Salih on assuming the Presidency of the Republic. He expressed his hope that the relations in his tenure will witness further development and progress.

His Eminence also valued the role of the Iraqi government in securing the Visit of Arbaeen and facilitating visiting procedures for visitor of the holy shrines in Iraq.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need to deepen the national unity of the Iraqi people and support them in bulding process and reconstruction. He indicated the depth of links that bring together the peoples of the two Muslim neighbors of Iraq and Iran.

His Eminence called on working to build a stable system in the region that avoid their peoples the repercussions of the conflict and differences, noting at the same time the need to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran.

In the meeting, President Barham Salih thanked His Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei for his congratulations and wishes. His Excellency pointed out the importance of the bilateral relations between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Iraq's keenness that these relations should always be at an advanced level of good understanding and cooperation in the interests of the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.

In his conversation, the President stressed the need for joint action between the governments of the two countries to enhance these relations, strengthen the political, cultural and social ties between the two countries, and work towards achieving stability in the region.
