Heavy security surrounded the arrival in Singapore of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday afternoon.

His limousine was escorted by 12 brawny men in black suits, when it was leaving the St. Regis Hotel at 6:22 p.m. Sunday for a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The "bulletproof bodyguards" earned the nickname for their tight, close-range protection during the inter-Korean summit in the truce village of Panmunjom on April 27.

Five stood on each side of the limousine and two behind before they started running along with the car in perfect formation.

Hundreds of Singaporeans gathered to see the rare sight as press cameras flashed.

The North Korean regime sent a large cohort of reporters as well as a heavy security detail to Singapore. North Korean reporters started taking pictures at close range the moment Kim arrived at Changi International Airport.

Two North Korean cameramen continued to shoot the motorcade all the way from the airport to the hotel hanging out of the roofs of their cars.

Most had been waiting at the hotel and nearby, and unlike foreign reporters they were allowed up close.

One of the North Korean reporters who had been standing with a camera in front of the hotel that afternoon fled when foreign reporters in turn took pictures of him. Waving his hand in surprise, he took pictures back.

A senior North Korean official who was standing in the lobby blurted out his frustration. "Why are reporters so unruly here?," he moaned.
