Amazon worker in Seattle tests positive for coronavirus
An Amazon employee in Seattle has become the company’s first US worker to contract coronavirus, a spokesperson confirmed to The Post on Tuesday night.
Amazon was alerted today of the positive coronavirus test result from a worker based out of the Amazon complex in the South Lake Union tech hub, according to Bloomberg.
“We’re supporting the affected employee who is in quarantine,” the company said in a statement.
The worker has been out of work since falling ill on Feb. 25, Bloomberg reported.
Fellow Amazon employees who came into contact with their infected co-worker were notified.
Two Amazon workers in Italy have already been diagnosed with coronavirus.
All nine coronavirus deaths in the US have come from Washington state, while 23 people there have been infected.
Five of the state’s fatalities were reportedly residents of a nursing home in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland.
