More than 180 migrants overwhelmed one of the EU’s only lands borders with Africa this morning by running across it
Footage shows the sub-Saharan refugees celebrating after running past security guards into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta which borders Morocco in Africa.
Ceuta and Melilla, which is also in Morocco, have the EU’s only land borders with Africa and are a frequent entry point for migrants attempting to enter Europe.
Refugees are often seen climbing high border fences, swimming the coast or hiding in vehicles to get across the frontier.
Last week around 200 migrants tried to pass through the 18-ft high double barbed-wire fence that surrounds Ceuta with around 73 managing to pass the border.
However, a police spokesman said incidents such as the one last night, where a large group sprints through are very rare.
Pictures show the migrants celebrating by dancing, raising their hands in joy and one man kneeling on the floor.
The refugees were rounded up and then taken to a reception centre where they can claim asylum.
