Iran's light homegrown submarines deployed in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said his forces have deployed homegrown light submarines, known as “dolphins of the Persian Gulf”, in the Strait of Hormuz to confront hostile naval vessels.

Rear Admiral Irani stated that the Iranian-made light submarines are being expanded and positioned on the seabed in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with existing threats, capabilities and operational needs.

He said the submarines are capable of remaining on the seabed for extended periods in the strategic waters of the Strait of Hormuz, while tracking and destroying hostile vessels.

According to the Navy commander, the light submarines are commonly referred to by naval officers and personnel as the “dolphins of the Persian Gulf.”

He noted that the light submarines surfaced in the Strait of Hormuz during an operation named in honor and memory of the martyrs of the Dena destroyer to demonstrate Iran’s maritime defensive power.

He added that after carrying out several formation maneuvers, the submarines returned to the depths of the sea to continue their assigned missions.
