Araqchi to discuss war developments in Russia

Speaking to reporters on Monday morning, Araqchi stated that Iran has always maintained close consultations with Russia on a wide range of issues, particularly regional matters, through continuous bilateral engagements.

He noted that a pause in meetings had occurred due to the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, but the opportunity of his ongoing regional tour—following visits to Pakistan and Oman—allowed for scheduling the Russia trip to discuss war-related developments and coordinate positions.

Araqchi added that his visit to Pakistan was bilateral and highlighted Islamabad’s recent role in mediating indirect talks between Iran and the United States. He said consultations were necessary due to recent developments in the negotiation process, noting that despite progress, the previous round of talks failed to achieve its objectives due to incorrect approaches and excessive demands by the United States.

The foreign minister said Iran held productive discussions with Pakistani officials, reviewing past developments and exploring conditions under which negotiations could proceed.

Araqchi further stated that his trip to Oman was also bilateral, describing the country as a close and friendly partner that had adopted positive positions during the US-Israeli war on Iran. He stressed the importance of expanding ties with neighbors, particularly in the Persian Gulf region, to better manage existing challenges.

Iran and Oman, as two coastal states overseeing the Strait of Hormuz, must maintain close coordination, he noted, emphasizing that secure passage through the strait is a significant global issue directly tied to the interests of both countries.

Araqchi added that there is substantial common ground between Tehran and Muscat, and agreements have been reached to continue consultations at the expert level.
