Mobarakeh Steel Group focuses on knowledge infrastructure development

The CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Group, accompanied by a number of deputies, visited the Steel Technology and Innovation Park located adjacent to the Mobarakeh Steel Complex.

According to a Steel correspondent, Saeed Zarandi, CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Group, on Sunday the 3rd of Esfand, along with the Deputy CEOs for Strategy and Technology Development, Investment and Corporate Affairs, as well as the CEOs of the Venture Capital Fund and the Mobarakeh Steel Engineering Company, visited the Steel Technology and Innovation Park located next to the Mobarakeh Steel Complex.

During this visit, a meeting was held with relevant managers and officials, and necessary decisions were made regarding the development process of research and technology infrastructure in this facility.

Focus of Mobarakeh Steel on technology orientation and knowledge infrastructure development

Saeed Zarandi, CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Group, emphasizing the need to accelerate project implementation, stated: “We must prepare a coherent plan for the start of executive operations through accurate and comprehensive studies.”

Referring to the importance of leveraging domestic and international companies’ experience, he added: “If possible, cooperation with large and experienced technology companies can improve execution quality. In addition, international consultants can be utilized to design a distinctive and flagship structure so that the technology park becomes a symbol of innovation for Mobarakeh Steel.”

Zarandi, stressing the technology-oriented approach in the future path of Mobarakeh Steel, stated: “The issue of becoming a technology-driven organization and developing knowledge infrastructure must be followed up on a weekly and continuous basis. Establishing a simulation center and utilizing modern global technologies can reduce the gap with international standards.”

The CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Group emphasized that the Steel Technology Park can serve as a new model of innovation in Iran’s steel industry and further strengthen Mobarakeh Steel’s position in technological development.

A major step toward becoming a technology-driven organization with the launch of an innovation factory

Mohammadreza Sharifi, Deputy CEO for Strategy and Technology Development at Mobarakeh Steel, on the sidelines of this visit, told a Steel correspondent that the final decision to establish a specialized Steel Technology and Innovation Park adjacent to Mobarakeh Steel has been made.

Referring to the group’s strategic roadmap, he stated: “One of Mobarakeh Steel Group’s strategic goals is to move toward technology orientation and innovation. In this regard, and with the presence of Saeed Zarandi, the CEO of the group, a fundamental decision was made to establish the specialized Steel Technology and Innovation Park.”

Sharifi explained that the site under review covers an area of 25 hectares and added: “From the early stages of Mobarakeh Steel’s establishment, this area was planned as part of the Iron and Steel Research Center to host specialized laboratories and pilot plants enabling the development of product and process prototypes. The purpose of this infrastructure is the commercialization of research achievements and their transfer to industrial production lines.”

He noted that although discussions had taken place in previous years, no final decision had been made until now. Fortunately, in the recent meeting with key stakeholders, the initial plan was presented and approved.

The Deputy CEO for Strategy and Technology Development further stated: “Based on the decision made, the Mobarakeh Steel Venture Capital Fund has been selected as the main executive arm of the project. This company, as one of the key subsidiaries and the technology and innovation support arm of the group, will be responsible for planning, preparing the final design, and executing the project in phased implementation.”

He expressed hope that within the coming months, the comprehensive plan will be finalized and implementation phases will begin.

Sharifi, referring to global experiences, noted: “Most large and advanced steel manufacturing plants in the world are equipped with innovation and technology centers. Establishing this park next to Mobarakeh Steel is an important step toward technological maturity and the realization of the group’s technology transformation roadmap.”

He concluded by emphasizing that in recent years, various initiatives have been carried out in research, cooperation with knowledge-based companies, and technology development, and the launch of the specialized Steel Technology and Innovation Park will mark a new and strategic phase in Mobarakeh Steel’s technological transformation journey.

Determination to establish a national steel industry technology park

Shahram Abbasi, CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Venture Capital Fund, on the sidelines of this visit, told a Steel correspondent that this center began construction in 1991 but unfortunately remained incomplete after a few years.

He added: “Based on Mobarakeh Steel Group’s innovation strategy, our goal is to act as a leading driver of innovation and technological development in the country’s steel industry. Therefore, we aim to bring together all necessary infrastructures and ecosystem components required to achieve this strategic objective.”

Referring to previous feasibility studies on establishing a specialized steel industry park, he stated: “Feasibility and conceptual design studies have already been completed. Fortunately, in today’s meeting, strong support from the CEO of Mobarakeh Steel Group was announced to accelerate the implementation of various phases of this project.”

Abbasi emphasized: “With this support, we will soon witness the establishment of a specialized Steel Technology and Innovation Park next to Mobarakeh Steel Complex at a proper pace. This initiative can play a significant role in technological development, support for knowledge-based companies, and strengthening the innovation ecosystem of the steel industry.”
