Iran urges IAEA to define protocols for inspecting attacked nuclear facilities

Mohammad Eslami spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the Sixth Specialized Exhibition of Lasers, Photonics, and Quantum in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Thursday.

In reaction to recent comments by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi regarding the need to inspect Iran’s bombed facilities, the AEOI chief said, “We wrote a letter to him, and the Agency must clarify its position on the violation of nuclear facilities.”

He further emphasized, “The second point is that the protocols for visiting the attacked sites must be defined. When a military attack occurs, and there are environmental hazards, this must be clearly outlined, and guidelines must be designed.”

“We submitted a proposal at the General Conference stating that nuclear sites should not be attacked; however, it was not taken into consideration. This issue needs clarification. Mr. Grossi must first clarify his position and explain the protocols for access,” he added.

Regarding the inspected sites in Iran, he noted, “Inspections have only been conducted at undamaged sites, and currently, the inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency are not present in Iran.”
