Tabnak – As the fighting has been intensified in various fronts to liberate Raqqa, the self-proclaimed ISIS capital, it appears that the Syrian army is gaining the upper hand against the other factions. This is while, the US and its allied forces are also attempting to reach the heart of the embattled city.

Iranian news outlet Press TV reports that The Syrian army has regained control of an oilfield in Raqqa after killing all of its occupying ISIS terrorists as part of their operations to fully liberate the country from extremism.

According a military source on Monday, the al-Deilaa oilfield, located in the province’s southwestern countryside, was liberated following heavy clashes with the terrorists. The source added that three car bombs were also neutralized during the operations.

Later last week, Syrian government forces managed to seize back oil fields in Raqqa and in the eastern province of Deir Ezzur from ISIS terrorists. An unnamed military source told Syria’s official news agency, SANA, on Saturday that army troopers had established complete control over Wahhab, al-Fahed, Dubeisan and al-Kabeer oil fields in addition to al-Qaseer, Abu al-Qetat and Abu Kattash oil wells during the military operations.

At the same time, the US and its allied forces are also trying to find a way to the heart of the city. According to Sky News, intense clashes have broken out between US-backed Syrian fighters and ISIS terrorists in the heart of Raqqa. At least 180 civilians in areas controlled by ISIS have managed to flee, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights putting that number in the hundreds.

In this vein, the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by the US, are engaged in severe clashes with the ISIS in Raqqa. Noting that its forces have reached the center of the city, the SDF said that 11 of its troops have been killed since clashes erupted on Sunday.

On the other hand, local sources in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur reported that a fresh round of infighting has erupted among commanders of the ISIS terrorist group following the rapid advances made by the Syrian Army troops in both Homs and Raqqa provinces in their push towards Deir Ezzur.

The sources said that two Moroccan and Kazakh field commanders of ISIS have engaged in heavy fighting in the town of Qaranich in Eastern Deir Ezzur, leaving five terrorists injured. The sources added that Saudi Commander of ISIS Abu Ayman al-Jazrawi that was known as emir of bomb-laden vehicles of ISIL has been killed in Eastern Deir Ezzur.

It should be noted that ISIS seized Raqqa in 2014, the same year when it started its campaign of terror in Syria. It then proceeded to capture large parts of Syrian territory. However, the terrorists have suffered major blows by the Syrian army and allies in recent months.
