Velayati stresses resistance role in regional new power architecture

Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs, says lasting peace can only emerge from a balance of power, warning against reliance on empty promises and compromise with the enemy.

In a message posted on X on Saturday, Velayati said the “long-standing nightmare and historic fear of Western theorists over Iran’s rise to power has become a reality, and a new geometry has taken shape.”

He pointed to Western media acknowledgements of Iran’s influence, saying reports by Reuters and The Guardian about US President Donald Trump’s need for a temporary agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz reflected “the failure of the doctrine of threatening Iran and the victory of the authority of the Resistance.”

Velayati warned regional actors against pursuing compromise at the expense of resistance.

“The new architecture of the geometry of power will not be built on weakening the heroic resistance,” he said.

“Diplomatic wishful thinking carries a heavy cost, and durable peace grows from within the balance of power, not from the mirage of unsupported pledges.”
