Lavrov made the remarks during a phone call initiated by his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, on Friday.

During the phone conversation, Araghchi and Lavrov exchanged views on the current status of Iran’s nuclear issue, including the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington in Geneva.

The report added that Lavrov once again declared Russia’s support for the negotiation process aimed at finding fair political and diplomatic solutions that respect Iran’s legitimate rights, enshrined in the principles of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In the phone call, the two top politicians also included several issues of mutual interest on the agenda of bilateral relations.

The second round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States concluded at the Omani Embassy in Geneva on Tuesday (February 17, 2026). Negotiators from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America reached general agreement on a set of guiding principles to narrow differences and begin work on drafting a possible agreement.

At the conclusion of the second round of talks, Araghchi said that various ideas were raised and seriously discussed, and that ultimately a general agreement was reached, according to Irna.

The first round of indirect Tehran–Washington talks was held on February 6, 2026, in Muscat, Oman. During those discussions, the Iranian and US negotiating delegations conveyed a series of views, considerations, and approaches to each other through Badr Albusaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister.
