The Moscow government will reinforce
security measures during Moscow Day to prevent terror attacks similar to
those carried out in Catalonia, official sources said today.
According to the head of the Central Department for Regional Security,
Vladimir Chernikov, 'all possible measures will be taken to avoid
tragedies such as those conducted lately in Europe, most recently in
Barcelona.'
The high-ranking official explained that concrete
blocks and other special tools will be used to protect the sites and
places that will host the biggest celebrations for Moscow Day, scheduled
for September 9 and 10.
'We have several methods to prevent these sort of situations,' he added.
We are commemorating this year the 870th anniversary of the founding of
Moscow, so local authorities are planning to organize hundreds of
events to celebrate such an anniversary.
Several media said that
around 5 million people participated in the celebrations for 2016
Moscow Day, and one of the main events held at the Red Square was also
attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry
Medvedev.
