Deputy Commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Iran and Oman will hold the 9th session of their joint military committee in Muscat.
He added that the two armed forces would exchange views on common issues during the five-day committee meetings scheduled to open on Feb. 5, Presstv reported.
The two neighbors have drawn up plans for the next year, including exchanging visits between commanders, organizing educational/training courses, joint marine maneuvers and expanding educational cooperation.
He pointed to tahe "very good” marine cooperation between the two neighbors and said Iran and Oman would hold joint sea drills at the end of the 9th session of the joint military committee.
General Salami stressed the importance of promoting collaboration between Iran and Oman.
Last August, Iran and Oman signed an agreement to boost defense cooperation.
The document was signed by Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al-Busaidi in Muscat. According to the document, the two sides agreed to expand defense ties and stressed that such cooperation would contribute to regional peace and stability.
They also agreed to hold joint military drills in the future. In December, the Majlis ratified a plan for security cooperation with the sultanate.
In an open session on December 19, lawmakers debated a report from Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on the prospects of security cooperation with the neighboring Arab state.
Based on the single article of the plan, the two countries can exchange security documents. The plan also calls for coordination between the two sides, joint working groups and sharing information.
