Out of 243 lawmakers who attended the session, a total of 241 deputies cast their votes. Salehi received a vote of confidence from 146 Iranian lawmakers while 60 were against him and 35 abstained, according to Press TV.

In a speech prior to the vote, Salehi promised to further enhance ties between Iran and the international community based on mutual justice.

Salehi is currently the Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and also Iran's vice president.
