The Dutch Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador on Saturday in connection with reports about the hanging of a Dutch-Iranian woman for drug smuggling.

According to Iranian media, Sahra Bahrami, 45, was detained during opposition clashes with police in December 2009 in which more than 15 people were killed and about 300 were arrested.

The Netherlands authorities were notified of her arrest 6 months later.

On January 2nd an Iranian court issued a death sentence on charges of drug smuggling.

Hearings on her taking part in anti-government protests were to take place two months later and envisaged death penalty too.
