ABU DHABI — The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted a formal satellite frequency coordination meeting with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting took place during the period 24-26 January 2011, and was held in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, the UAE delegation was headed by Eng. Khalid Al Awadhi, Manager Space Services in the TRA. The Emirati delegation included also members from the two licensed satellite operators in the country (Thuraya and Yahsat).

Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA commented on the meeting saying: "holding such bilateral satellite coordination meetings to coordinate the frequencies with the neighbouring countries is one of the vital tools that prevent the frequencies interference with the Iranian side.”

Al Ghanim explained that the results of this coordination meeting were satisfactory where satellite service providers from both the Emirati and the Iranian Administrations can gather to discuss the best available solutions to prevent interference between both sides.

Eng. Khalid commented on the meeting saying: "The main objective of the meeting was to discuss relevant issues, where the two administrations have several pending satellite coordination cases that need to be discussed and finalised.”
